Wessex Playoff Finals 2023

Blackhawk Ladies 1  Last Minute Playoff Triumph

Woking Blackhawks Ladies Div 1 Winners 68 69s

In a repeat of their Richard Bell Cup Victory earlier on the year, the Blackhawk Ladies snatched a last minute victory in their Wessex Ladies Division One playoff Final against Winchester Royals.

A competitive game throughout Winchester took control in the second quarter which they won 21:10 to take them into half time with a 15point lead 44:29.

Halfway through the third quarter Winchester had further increased their lead to 17 points 55:38. At this stage instead of panic at the situation, the squad decided to try to relax and enjoy the remainder of the game. This let the Blackhawks play their game and by the end of the quarter the halftime deficit had been marginally trimmed by 1 leaving a 14 point deficit.

The ‘relaxed play’ instilled confidence and a tight defence limited Winchester to three baskets and 8 points in the final quarter. It was not until the ninth minute of the quarter that the game became drawn at 68:68, and final three throw gave a victory to a rapturous cheers from their supporters. The final score being Winchester Royal Ladies 68:69  Blackhawk Ladies
