Blackhawks had two games left in the league but only needed the win against Yateley to take the league title.

In the first meeting, at the beginning of the season, Yateley took a comfortable 25 point win, that was the last game the Blackhawks had lost this season

Both squads had full benchesand for the first two quarters they traded baskets resulting in the Blackhawks having a marginal one point league at the half 31:30.

This status quo continued into the eighth minute of the third quarter with the teams tying 41:41. For the remainder of the third neither side managed to sink a field basket with all the scoring from the free-throw line Yateley sank 4 from 6 whilst Blackhawks only sank 1 from 6 resulting in Blackhawks having a three point deficit at the end of the quarter 42:45.

Silverbacks continued with a slight advantage in the final quarter and at the start of the seventh minute had a 9 point lead 46:55. Blackhawks were not about to give up the title easily as they responded and trimmed the deficit to 5 in the last two minutes. Ed Pasalan sank his second 3 and Dodd his second field basket leaving a two point deficit with 19 seconds left in the game.

Blackhawks were on the offensive, with Silverbacks providing stiff defence, however the Blackhawks controlled their offence with controlled passing which resulted in Ed Pasalan receiving the ball in the corner beyond the three point line, with seconds left on the clock Ed put up the shot and swished the basket making the three point and a one point lead. That corner of the court will no forever be known as Pasalan’s corner.

The clock stopped on 1.6 seconds and Silverbacks called a time out, advancing the ball for the inbound. All to no avail as the Blackhawks defence held, no fouls were given and the final whistle blew with the Blackhawks taking the 1 point win.

Coach Knode was ecstatic with the win(as was the rest of the Bench) this being his fifth Wessex title and first as Coach since his retirement as a player.

Top Scorer and MVP for the game was Rod Wellington
